ACDSee is certainly a low-cost alternative to some of the more well-known digital darkroom products on the shelves. It has powerful organizational tools that are very "home user" friendly.

Pros

* Low Cost
* Strong Organizing Tools
* Pop Up Thumbnails

Description

* Organization of images by type, date, and user-defined options
* Editing tools to allow the most common needs of home users
* Image importing controls make it easy to get images from your camera or other device

Guide Review - ACDSee Review

ACDSee is a very nice home user digital darkroom package. The program is quite honestly better at logically sorting images than I am (a pretty common failing among photographers - we love to shoot and hate to organize). The program also offers a reasonable interface to cameras and other devices for image uploads. The pop-up thumbnails are a huge help in verifying what image you are selecting without opening several full size images. The editing options have the "standard" needs of a home user like red eye reduction, cropping, resizing, sharpness adjustment, scratch removal, and exposure control. There are also several nice effects such as paintings and water reflections. When in edit mode the interface can be a bit confusing at first to undo changes if you accidentally accept an erroneous change but there are built in help guides to help you learn the interface.
